服裝熨燙工藝的作用主要有四個方面，即成型、燙平、褶裥與粘和。

1、工作服定制之成型
1. Forming of Workwear Customization
它就是利用熨燙來改變服裝立體形狀的一個過程。理想的工作服造型通過借助熨燙工藝，來改變織物組織密度與紗線形態(tài)等結(jié)構(gòu)因素，來達到塑造服裝的立體造型的目的。
It is a process of changing the three-dimensional shape of clothing by ironing. Ideal work clothes shape can change the structure factors such as fabric density and yarn shape by ironing process, so as to achieve the goal of three-dimensional garment shape.
2、工作服定制之燙平
2. Flattening of Workwear Customization
如果說造型是通過熨燙使纖維和紗線彎曲抽拔以適合立體造型的要求，那么恰恰相反，燙平則是通過熨燙，使在加工過程中因存放搬運而造成的布料皺折平服，使衣服平滑筆挺。

褶裥是增進服裝審美的一種重要形式。褶裥要求褶痕越耐久越好，而折皺則希望其折痕越不易產(chǎn)生且產(chǎn)生后消失的愈快愈好。褶裥的形式有兩種，一種就是單純利用熨燙工藝，使構(gòu)成織物的纖維與紗線彎曲而形成褶裥;另一種是所謂的褶裥就是先用開口縫線假縫縫制，而后再用熨燙工藝。

不少工作服需要在一些部位加固一層或幾層襯里，以增加服裝的身骨與挺擴性。襯里往往都是利用熱熔粘合的原理，通過壓燙將粘合襯布與服裝固為一體的。熱熔粘合只要在溫度、壓力的作用下，經(jīng)過一段時間來完成。
Many work clothes need to reinforce one or several layers of lining in some parts to increase the body and expansion of clothing. Lining is often based on the principle of hot melt bonding, which solidifies the bonded interlining cloth into garment by pressing and ironing. Hot-melt bonding can be completed after a period of time under the action of temperature and pressure.
